Milk teeth begin to erupt when the baby is between 6-8 months. By the age of 3, all of the milk teeth will come out. During infancy, 20 teeth erupt in the mouth. Milk teeth are more sensitive than permanent teeth and more susceptible to cavities and abrasions.
At the age of 6, the milk teeth fall out and the permanent teeth begin to emerge. This can continue until the age of 13-14. This process of tooth change between the ages of 6 and 13-14 is called mixed dentition. During this mixed dentition, caries in primary teeth can also affect the health of other permanent teeth.
Babies should have their first oral and dental check-ups after 1 year of age. As a result of this control, you should have your child’s mouth and teeth checked at intervals recommended by your dentist. In this way, you can protect your child’s dental health by going to regular check-ups.
The first and main task of milk teeth is to ensure that children are properly fed. At the same time, the development of speech is related to the presence of milk teeth.
The development of milk and permanent teeth should help each other. It protects the area covered by the permanent teeth that will replace the milk teeth and guides the permanent teeth.
